The Philharmoniker is produced by The Austrian Mint, a company with an 800-year history of coin-making that’s located in Vienna and employs more than 200 people.
Paying tribute to Austria’s role in - and love of - the world of classical music, the reverse of the coin features an array of eight detailed musical instruments, including four violins, a cello, a harp, a Viennese horn and the bassoon. The front of the coin features the famous pipe organ from the Goldener Saal (golden hall) of the Viennese Musikverein (musical society).
